Poona District Education Association was established in the year 1941 by a philanthropist and social worker, Late Shri. Baburaoji Gholap with the mission of spreading literacy in the rural parts of the Pune District. His philosophy was to eradicate the social evil ” illiteracy ” prevalent among the rural masses of Pune District. With this aim in mind, he established this trust and started running primary schools in rural areas thereby giving an opportunity to therural folk to achieve their lifelong ambition of becoming literate. With his dedicated devotion towards this cause and with the support of Late Shri. Mamasaheb Mohol, PDEA, in a span of two to three decades, established numerous Primary and Secondary Schools in the rural areas of Pune District.

During the year 1970 the trust realised the need for higher education and this gave rise to Junior and Senior Colleges of Arts, Commerce and Science at Otur, Hadapsar and Saswad. Subsequently Colleges were established at Sangavi, Akurdi, Nasarapur and Paud Road. In all these colleges, Postgraduates course were added in three streams.The vision of Late Prof. Ramkrishna More, the erstwhile Prsident and Late Mr. Rajivsheth Sable gave rise to Technical Educationand Mahatma Phule Institute of Management, Pharmacy College at Saswad, Ayurved College at Akurdi, Diploma Institute and College of Engineering at Hadapsar were established. The association is now ably spearheaded by Hon. Mr. Ajit Pawar who has undertaken to make this trust and all its institutes and college at per with global institutions. Many of the students of various schools and colleges of this trust have been meritorious rank holders in S.S.C., H.S.C. and University Examinations.
